Date:  1858
Place:  Tunbridge

TUNBRIDGE

TRADERS

. . .

Piper, Henry John, woolstapler and fellmonger,  High street
    Pluck, Thomas, fireman,  High street
Pollington, Stephen, boot and shoe maker, St Stephen's place

. . .

This is PL71 in Tree 5.  He also appears in Tree 13 and is a direct ancestor of the New Zealand branch which can be found in Tree 14.  To the best of my knowledge he was a plumber (and latterly also in the related trade of glazier) for all his life.  I think it likely that "fireman" is an error by the compiler of the Directory.
