MANSION-HOUSE

Yesterday two little boys, of the names of Hunt and Hutchins, neither of them twelve years of age, and seemingly much younger, were brought before the LORD MAYOR, charged with having broken a pain of glass in the shop of Mr. Pluck, of Bishopsgate street, and stealing a silk handkerchief and a quantity of lace. The father of Hutchins stated to his Lordship, that his son had been three years at the Cordwainers' School, whence he had been dismissed a few days ago, on account of his incorrigible conduct. To prevent his going out into the streets, and being guilty of the practices with which he was now charged, he had yesterday locked up his shoes; but in his absence, the boy had dragged an old pair from under the bed, had gone out, and committed the offence for which he now appeared before his Lordship. He had applied to the Marine Society to receive the boy, which they had declined; and thought, that if he were sent to sea, there might be some chance of his reformation. His Lordship ordered both the boys to be taken to Captain Richbell, Regulating Captain, on Tower-hill, requesting he would use his endeavours, that they might be usefully employed in his Majesty's service.
