1918 : Frederick Pluck - Leaves Australia to become a War Worker

Frederick William Pluck, PL1783, Tree 6

Frederick William Pluck, aka Taylor, was born in Brighton in 1893, the son of William John Pluck and Alice Flawn. His father died in 1902 at the early age of 35 and his mother remarried in 1912. Her new husband was Caleb Taylor, a widower. This presumably explains why Frederick Pluck was calling himself Frederick Taylor in 1918. He reverted to Frederick Pluck some time later.

It is not known when he went to Australia. A Frederick Taylor, aged 19, arrived in Brisbane on 2 April 1912 aboard the Marathon from Plymouth. This could be him, but there is no more information about the passenger and Taylor is a fairly common name.

He probably worked in a mine of some sort as his grandson, John Pluck, remembers being told that he may have been injured in a mining accident which could have led to his early death.

He must have come back to England at some time because he married Nellie Campkin, neé Ridge, in Tonbridge in 1923 and soon after he emigrated to Canada.

Nellie emigrated to Canada in 1913.

At the moment I am uncertain of the purpose of these documents.

I am grateful to John Pluck for providing these copies of his grandfather's documents.
