1871 : Mr Pluckrose is the Starter for a Pigeon Race

The long-looked-for match between Mr Bradshaw of Greenwich and Mr Morgan of Cold Bath, came off on Saturday last from the Crystal Palace, for £3 a side, Mr Bradshaw winning with his chequered cock Lord Lyon. Time, 5min 47sec. Distance flown, 4¾ miles 291 yards. The time of Mr Morgan’s pigeon, 5m 21sec; distance flown 4¼ miles. Thus Mr Bradshaw won by 23sec. Mr Pluckrose started the pigeons, and Messrs Benjamin and Bond were timekeepers at home.
