STOWMARKET

SWIMMING CLUB. - The Stowmarket Bathing and Swimming Club held its annual meeting at the Institute on Thursday evening (25 April 1895), Mr. John Hayward, the president, being in the chair. There was a fair number of members and friends. The statement of accounts was read by the hon. sec., Mr. J. R. Dewhirst, and the figures were an excellent criterion of the inclement weather experienced in 1894. The bathing-place being in the open air, the attendance was seriously affected by the cold and wet, the receipts from this source being a little more than half the amount received the year before. This decrease was rectified, however, by the energy displayed by the joint secretaries, Messrs. J. R. and C. Dewhirst, in collecting subscriptions, so that the year ended with a balance of 13s. 10d. only on the debit side, after paying some £16 for cleaning mud from the bottom of the bathing-place, and almost a like sum for attendants’ wages. This was considered by all present as highly satisfactory, and the balance-sheet was unanimously passed, and a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the secretaries for their services, and amid applause agreed to continue in office. Mr. John Hayward was re-elected president, the old Committee were elected with the addition of Messrs. L. T. Partridge, and Mr. Pluck, and a vote of thanks to the Chairman closed the meeting.
