CUBITT TOWN WIFE SHOT.

Accused Husband Pleads He Only Intended to Frighten Her

Mrs. Pluckrose, of Stebbondale-road, Cubitt Town, whose husband was remanded at the Thames Police Court on Monday (28 August 1911)on a charge of shooting her, died on Thursday night at the Seamen's Hospital.

The accused, who is a moulder, when charged at the Isle of Dogs Police Station on Sunday morning, said, “Yes; I did shoot her. I only did it to frighten her. I did not intend to do her any harm.” He then pointed to the pistol and said, “That is what I did it with.”

Mr. Phelps (who defended at the police court) elicited the fact that the prisoner surrendered himself.

Mr. Pickersgill, in remanding the prisoner, refused bail.

The dying woman's depositions were taken by Mr. Pickersgill at the hospital on Tuesday. The magistrate was accompanied by Mr. Leick, one of the clerks of the court, and the depositions were taken in the presence of Pluckrose himself. The man was overcome with grief.
