He died on 9 April 1945, aged 31, and is buried at the Bari War Cemetery, Italy.

He was a member of the 1017 Port Operating Company and it is virtually certain that he was killed in the disastrous explosion of an ammunition ship in Bari harbour on that date.

The CWGC site records that he was the son of Stephen and Charlotte Pluckrose of South Bermondsey.
