Notes on Tree 3

The Cambridgeshire Branch

This tree has been substantially revised after the passage of almost ten years. It has grown from 28 people to 164 people,
incorporating the former Twig 4 (22 people) and the former Twig 16 (38 people)
.

This Tree links directly to Tree 1. John Pluck and his wife, Elizabeth, can be found in both trees.

This tree starts in a period when people were starting to be more mobile, so it has major contribution from Wisbech and West Wickham, with smaller contributions from Cherry Hinton, Linton and St Neots in Huntingdonshire.  A few Plucks will also be found in Canada and the United States, with a sole traveller to Australia (unwillingly, and at the King's expense).

2698 PLUCK Walter James I have no absolute proof, yet, that Walter is the son of James Turner Pluck. The evidence is strong, but only circumstantial: (1) James and Rhoda were married in Shoreditch in 1853, Walter was born in the Old Kent Road in 1857; (2) they were near neighbours in the 1881 and 1891 censuses of West Wickham; (3) a daughter of Walter was called Emily Rhoda, a son was named Frederick Turner and both families had a Marion. There is no doubt that they were closely related. A birth certificate is needed, or a 1861 census record.
The issue is further complicated by his marriage certificate (1877) which records his father as Walter James Pluck, general dealer.

2523 PLUCK William Found only in the 1881 census where he is listed as the grandson of Jane Greaves (nee Pluck). Assigning Elizabeth Maria as his mother is purely speculative. There is no direct evidence. I can't find a birth record in the GRO index which leads me to suspect that he was registered under another surname. It could have been Pickles, unfortunately a common Yorkshire surname. He was not with Elizabeth in the 1891 census.
