2172 | BURBRIDGE | George | Identified by Free BMD and 1851 census |

1535 | HODGES | Mary | Found in 1851 and 1881 censuses. |
4536 | HORROD | William | There is a possible birth of a William John Horrod in Q1 1903 in the St George in the East RD and there is a possible death record in Dec 1962: Hackney 5c, 729, age 59. |
2157 | HOYE | Eliza | 1861, 1871, 1881 censuses. Eliza's father was a thatcher. |
2121 | JACOBS | Rosetta | C1901: 17, unmarried, rope spinner, b. Bethnal Green. |
2096 | KILBEY | Isabella | C1871; C1881; C1891: NF. |
2103 | LOCK | Hannah Bloye | C1891; C1901; C1911: 39, married 22 years, born in Townlake, devonshire, 10 children, six still living. She is in the 1936 electoral register living at 37 Whitworth Road in Woolwich together with: Fanny Ann Pluckrose, Margaret Elizabeth Williams, Phyllis Maud Pluckrose and William Denton Stoker. The same five are still at this address in 1939 |
4557 | MCGRATH | Mary A | Cyril married Mary in 1962 when he was aged 41. I have not been able to find any record which gives a clue to Mary's age. Fifteen years earlier the birth of Eileen Pluckrose was registered in the Dartford District, the mother's maiden name was McGrath. The only record that I have found of a Pluckrose marrying a McGrath was the wedding in 1962, so I think it highly likely that Eileen is the daughter of Cyril and Mary. |
2089 | MONK | Fanny | C1841: there is a 3 year old Mary Pluckrose in the household. It is not obvious where she belongs since there is another Mary born in 1842 and no death in the GRO index; C1851; C1861; C1871 (widowed and living with son, George) |
2152 | MUSGROVE | Sarah | There is a possible burial in Woodford Bridge on 12 April 1829, aged 55 years - calc birth in 1774. |
4535 | PADWICK | Henry James | In all of his records, except the GRO marriage index, he is recorded as Henry James, or Henry J. In the marriage index he is James H, but I have no doubt that this is the same person. He served in the Royal Navy between 1 Aug 1916 and 29 May 1919. He wasn't a very large man - just half an inch over five feet tall, and a 32 inch chest. His parents were Henry and Alice Padwick. |
2026 | PICKERSGILL | Sarah Ann Thompson | C1901 |
2032 | PLEDGER | Mary Louise | C1901 |
2848 | PLUCKROSE | Ada | Illegitimate birth, known as Ada Chorley after her mother's marriage to Ernest Chorley. No marriage found but the death of an Ada Chorley in Dartford, Kent, in 1973 fits with regard to age, but not date of birth. |
2099 | PLUCKROSE | Ada Fanny | C1871; C1881; C1891 living with brother Henry and his family. Married in 1896, recorded as Fanney Ada in the GRO index. She had four children: Ernest Henry (1899-1908), Alfred William (1901-1903), Isabella Agnes (6.4.1903-9.3.1891) and William George (8.12.1905-1965). She died in 1907, at the age of 36, of a heart attack. She also had an illegitimate daughter, Ada (5.10.1893) who became part of the Chorley family after her marriage. |
2088 | PLUCKROSE | Alexander | C1851: (b.1814), C1861: (b.1812). Age at death was 60 which suggests
a birth in 1809. In the 1861 census there are two other family members, a niece, Mary A Pluckrose, (unmarried, a general servant), and a granddaughter, Ann Pluckrose, born in Woodford in 1860. The only evidence linking Daniel and Alexander (on 20 Dec 2007) is circumstantial. In the 1841 census Alexander, Thomas and Joseph are living at the same address in Woodford. Their ages (20, 30 and 20 respectively - rounded for the census) makes it likely that they are brothers. |
2027 | PLUCKROSE | Alexander George | C1891; C1901 (Alec). The 1911 census is informative: living in three rooms at 132 Duckett Street, Stepney were: Alexander, head, 28, waste paper carman; Rosetta, 28, married 9 years with 6 children, five still living: Rosetta (9), Alexander (7), David (3), Mary (2) and Hannah Elizabeth (11 weeks). |
2122 | PLUCKROSE | Alexander George | C1911: age 7. No marriage found in GRO indexes. |
2101 | PLUCKROSE | Alfred George | C1881; C1901: carman, living with his in-laws. George Alfred at death, and at marriage, George in 1901 census, so birth name wrong, or fell out of favour? C1911. |
2175 | PLUCKROSE | Alice | C1861 |
2761 | PLUCKROSE | Alice Ada | Known from the 1881 census. There isn't a birth recorded for Alice Ada in the GRO index. There is a record at about the right time for Jane Eliza Pluckrose, Lambeth 1d, 301 in Q3 1871. This may be another person, the census could be wrong, perhaps the family decided to change her name, or, most likely, she was simply missed from the indexing process. |
2168 | PLUCKROSE | Alice Jane | C1861; C1871 in Paddington with mother; C1881: married, with 2 children. |
2092 | PLUCKROSE | Ann | 1851 |
2161 | PLUCKROSE | Ann Sarah | C1841 |
2018 | PLUCKROSE | Arthur Henry | C1881; C1901. He called himself Henry Arthur when he married. |
2034 | PLUCKROSE | Arthur Thomas | In 1901 census. |
2112 | PLUCKROSE | Beatrice Mary | She did not marry. |
2107 | PLUCKROSE | Bertie | C1911. |
2153 | PLUCKROSE | Caroline | C1841: NF; C1851: NF; C1861: living in Camberwell, unmarried, aged
40, born in Woodford, charwoman, a lodger in the Jennings household;
C1871: married and living in Camberwell. When she married in 1864 she gave her age as 40 (not 49 - a lady's privilege?), her spouse, Henry, was a 35 year old widower and a house painter, her father, Daniel. a cordwainer, Henry's father, James, a carpenter. The marriage took place a few months after the marriage of her daughter, Mary Ann. |
1540 | PLUCKROSE | Caroline | In 1851 census. Marriage to William confirmed by 1901 census. Is William Samuel Rudland related to the Arthur Rudland who married her niece Emily Caroline ? |
2019 | PLUCKROSE | Caroline Mary | In 1881 census. Married in 1893; living at 67 Union Road, West Ham, in 1901, with 2 children; husband a self-employed plumber. Is her husband (Walter Richard Robinson) related to her mother (Mary Ann Robinson) - a cousin ? |
2767 | PLUCKROSE | Charles Edward | C1891; C1901: aged 7, but probably a mistake for 9. He may have been a twin. There is a death registered in Lambeth in the same quarter as Charles's birth was registered: Walter Alfred, age 0. There is already a Walter Alfred, born in 1875, who was still living. However, if the second Walter Alfered died at birth he may simply have been given his father's names. A certificate would answer this question. C1911: living in Vauxhall with his widowed mother and brothers Frederick and George. Not married and working as a railway porter. |
2169 | PLUCKROSE | Charles George | Not with his widowed mother in the 1871 census. |
4128 | PLUCKROSE | Charles Henry | There is an entry in Pigots 1839 Essex Directory: Pluckrose, Charles Henry, Bridge (presumably Woodford Bridge) - boot and shoe maker. He is also in the 1848 Woodford Directory. The 1851 census has an entry in Barking which is almost certainly relevant: Charles H Pluckrose, head, 51, marital status not given, shoemaker, born in Woodford. The only other occupant of the dwelling was Eliza Shippas, wid?, marital status not recorded, housekeeper, born Barking. A likely death record is: Q4 1860, Charles Pluckrose, Romford 4a, 50. |
2020 | PLUCKROSE | Charlotte | C1881. |
2763 | PLUCKROSE | Charlotte Harriett | C1881; C1891; C1901: A possible entry at 59 Newburn St, Lambeth: Charlotte
WILMOT, head, married, 21, charwoman, born Lambeth; and daughter Maggie
aged 1. No sign of husband. Banns published 22, 29 Nov and 6 Dec, married 19 Dec 1896. |
2151 | PLUCKROSE | Daniel | Daniel Pluckrose, the head of this Tree, has his origins in Tree 1010.
He is the son of John Pluckrose and Elizabeth Champness. There are four possible Daniel Pluckrose death records in the GRO index between 1841 and 1846: (1) Q1 1841, West Ham, 12, 221, which is the record that I have chosen because I am reasonably certain that he was living in Woodford and Woodford is in the West Ham Registration District (RD); (2) Q1 1842, Epping, 12,71 which is already assigned to PL08612 in Tree 1007, this is confirmed by a death certificate in the possession of Lesley Murray; (3) Q1 1846 Ware, 6, 398, which is backed up by a burial record (18 March 1846 in Eastwick, Hertfordshire), which is too far away from the Woodford area, and (4) Q3 1846, Romford, 12, 183. Woodford is not in the Romford RD but this record is not out of the question. |
2124 | PLUCKROSE | David | C1911: age 3. David & Florence are in the 1935 Electoral Register living at 170 Stepney Green. |
2110 | PLUCKROSE | Edith Isabel | C1901; C1911. 1929 electoral register: living with her parents at 26 Vicarage Road, Woolwich. |
2095 | PLUCKROSE | Edward | C1861: age 9, scholar; C1871; a soldier in the 2/16th Regiment of foot
at Canterbury Barracks. County of birth given as Kent, but this is probably
an error. Not found after 1871. |
2036 | PLUCKROSE | Edward | In the 1881 census he is a 1 week old in the Union with his 15/16 year old unmarried mother. |
2158 | PLUCKROSE | Edward Joseph | Link based on (1) father named Daniel on marriage certificate and (2)
place of birth Woodford in 1861 census. In 1841 census of South Hackney with Ann, four children, and ? father-in-law. His occupation is commercial traveller. In 1861 he is in Islington with second wife Mary Ann, 4 children, sister-in-law (Eliza Taylor, 36, unmarried, dressmaker) and a servant (Martha Higgs). Occupation: traveller (vinegar). Perry's Bankrupt and Insolvent Gazette records (on 1 January 1837) that Edward Joseph Pluckrose of Munster Street, Regents's Park, oilman, was applying to be discharged from insolvency: Court House, Portugal Street, 16th Jan at nine. Perry's Bankrupt and Insolvent Gazette records (on 2 May 1848) that Edward Joseph Pluckrose of Kingsland Road, Middlesex, tea dealer and grocer was to appear in Court at Basinghall Street - petitioning creditor: John Flower, Fore Street, Cripplegate, tea dealer. He was presumably declared bankrupt because Perry records that John Flower was assigned Edward's estates on 1 June 1848. A further record in Perry notes a meeting "For Allowance of Certificates on 29 August 1848. |
2162 | PLUCKROSE | Edward Joseph | C1841. Not found in later censuses. No death found. |
4096 | PLUCKROSE | Eliza | James and Eliza had at least ten children [Rick Glanvill 3/1/2016]. Eliza was the 4xgreat grandmother of Rick Granvill. Eliza's older brother, Charles, was a witness at her wedding. |
2035 | PLUCKROSE | Elizabeth | Known primarily from the 1871 census. Although she is recorded as Elizabeth
Pluckrose in the 1871 census a birth registration can not be found in
the GRO index. However, since her birth precedes her mother's marriage,
the following record is probably relevant: Q4 1866 Elizabeth Robinson,
West Ham 4a 9. In the 1881 census Elizabeth is an inmate in the West Ham Union and School at Leyton with a one week old child, Edward. Edward dies within a few weeks. I have not found any further records (marriage, death or census) for Elizabeth. I also have a copy of an inside page of Henry and Mary Ann's family bible (courtesy of David Thurston) which lists 8 children but misses out Elizabeth. |
2100 | PLUCKROSE | Elizabeth Ann | C1881; C1901: a barmaid. There is a possible marriage in 1902 to George John BROWN. The 1911 census has George J Brown and Elizabeth A Brown living in Forest Gate. Elizabeth's age is right. She gives her birthplace as Harrow Green, Essex. Harrow Green is in Leytonstone. She was baptised at St John Baptist's church in Leytonstone. There are two children, George (6) and Ernest (1). |
2760 | PLUCKROSE | Emily Alice | C1881;C1901: single, laundress, living with parents. Married in 1909; husband identified via Free BMD with 3 children born in the Ware RD in 1914, 1917 and 1920 with the surname Cross and mmn Pluckrose. |
2017 | PLUCKROSE | Emily Caroline | C1881; C1901: living at 26 Bristol Road, West Ham, with three childen and her husband ,Arthur, a cash machine smith. |
2166 | PLUCKROSE | Emily Mary | This is Sarah Garland's husband's great grandmother. There were several
children: Emily Edith b. Sidcup, 1875; Ethel S. b. Sidcup, 1876; Edward
Joseph b. Sidcup, 11 Mar 1880; Minnie Gertrude b.1885; George b. Sidcup,1892
and Frank b. Sidcup, 1893. C1861; C1901: family living at 5 Osborne Terrace, Foots Cray, Joseph - a gardener (not domestic) b. Chipstead in 1851. |
2022 | PLUCKROSE | Ethel | In 1881 and 1891 censuses. In 1901 she is still living at home; occupation
- mantle machinist. There is a possible marriage: Q4 1904, West Ham 4a 547 to either Alfred Ashford or Herbert Charles Butler but the 1911 census does not yield a likely family. |
2149 | PLUCKROSE | Ethel Daisy | C1881: Ethel, 3, born St Pancras. |
2106 | PLUCKROSE | Fanny Ann | C1911. She did not marry. |
3242 | PLUCKROSE | Florence Louise | Two sons, Trevor and David Wooley. |
2765 | PLUCKROSE | Frederick Joseph | C1891; C1901; C1911: living in Vauxhall with his widowed mother and brothers George and Charles. Not married and working as a printer. There is a possible marriage: Lambeth Jun 1916 to Sarah J Kennedy. No children of this marriage have been found. |
2102 | PLUCKROSE | Frederick William | C1881; C1891 living with his brother Henry and his family. no children found post 1912. |
2094 | PLUCKROSE | George | George John Pluckrose and George Pluckrose both had births that were
registered in the West Ham RD in Q2 1849. It is not possible to determine
the correct Volume and Page numbers without buying at least one certificate. C1851; C1861; C1871: (living in Woodford with his widowed mother); C1881: NF; C1891; C1901: dock labourer, living in Mile End. |
1534 | PLUCKROSE | George John | A christening record that would definitely link George to Daniel has
not yet been found. The link is based on two pieces of evidence: (1)
George and Mary's marriage certificate shows George's father as Danl
Pluckrose, dead. Daniel's death was registered March Q 1841. (2) The
1851 census records George's place of birth as Woodford. George is living in Woodford (probably in lodgings) in 1841 and he marries, in St Pancras, about 8 weeks later. Perhaps the death of his father provided the necessary stimulus (or release). I believe his mother was already dead, she does not show up in the 1841 census, and there is a possible burial in Woodford in 1829. George's wife Mary was from Scotland. George and his family are living at 2 Vicarage Lane in 1871. In 1881 only George and Mary are present but his son, Henry, and his family, are living in the same street. |
1539 | PLUCKROSE | George John | C1881: he is living in William Street, St Pancras, aged 31, an upholsterer, b. Wanstead, accompanied by his wife, Harriett (36, a machinist, born Maidstone) and children George (7), Thomas (5) and Ethel (3). I have not found him in either the 1901 or 1911 censuses. His wife, in the 1901 census describes herself as a widow, however, the only death that I can find for George takes place in the Pancras RD in 1922. Perhaps he deserted her. We need a death certificate to solve this problem. When his son, George John, married in 1919 his father, George John Pluckrose, was described as deceased (no occupation given). |
2147 | PLUCKROSE | George John | C1881: George, 7, scholar, born St Pancras. When he married on 2 August 1919, he was described as age 44, bachelor, mechanic, son of George John Pluckrose, deceased. |
2766 | PLUCKROSE | George Richard | C1891; C1901; C1911: living in Vauxhall with his widowed mother and brothers Frederick and Charles. Not married and working as a salesman. |
2105 | PLUCKROSE | Hannah | C1901 |
4534 | PLUCKROSE | Hannah Elizabeth | C1911: 11 weeks old. |
2090 | PLUCKROSE | Henry | C1841: aged 1; C1851; C1861; C1871; C1881. |
1538 | PLUCKROSE | Henry | C1851; C1871 and 1881: Henry and his family are living at 7 Vicarage Gardens, in West Ham, his parents are living in the same street in 1871 and 1881; C1891: still living at 7 Vicarage Gardens; C1901: moved to No 1. |
2097 | PLUCKROSE | Henry | C1871; C1881; C1891; C1901; C1911: 48, greengrocer (Co-operative Society), born in Poplar, living at 34 Ordnance Road, Woolwich Common with wife and 5 children. |
2130 | PLUCKROSE | Henry | No obvious marriage found. |
2148 | PLUCKROSE | Henry Thomas | C1881: Thomas, 5, born St Pancras. No later records found. There were two Henry Thomas births registered in 1876. |
3243 | PLUCKROSE | Iris Margaret | Two children: Corinne, b. 1952, Ilford and Robert Anthony Sean, b. 1959, Ilford. |
2098 | PLUCKROSE | Isabella | C1871; C1881; C1891: a domestic servant in Hornsey, unmarried; C1901: married to Sidney (a house painter), no children. |
2160 | PLUCKROSE | James | 1841. C1851: there are three people living at 6 St Jude Street, Bethnal Green. [1] James Pluckrose, head, tailor, aged 23, unmarried, born in Greenwich; [2] Eliza Pluckrose, 'daughter', aged 18, unmarried, born in Finsbury, and [3] Joseph Sindell, relative, tailor, aged 26, born in Finsbury and unmarried. Eliza's age and place of birth fit Eliza Wilcox who married James in 1852. Perhaps they were "living in sin - or maybe Joseph was a chaperone? C1861: James is married with wife, Elizabeth (born in Finsbury), and 3 children, living in Stepney and working as a clerk. None of family found in the 1871 census or subsequently, but there is a possible death for James in Bethnal Green in 1869 (the age fits). |
2176 | PLUCKROSE | James Joseph Charles | C1861 |
2155 | PLUCKROSE | Joseph | The linking of Joseph here is speculative. It is based on (1) being
found in the same household as Thomas, (son of Daniel), in the 1841 census,
and (2) Daniel and Sarah being the most likely parents in Woodford -
they were married in 1797 and must have had more children than listed
in this tree. C1841: in Woodford, unmarried ag lab.; C1851: in Woodford, unmarried baker; C1861: in Chigwell, unmarried cattle drover and general servant. Not found in 1871. |
2163 | PLUCKROSE | Joseph Samuel | C1841. In 1851 Joseph (and his younger brother Walter) were living
in North Road, Hornsey, in what might have been a small school. The head
of the household was Susannah Perry, widow, 28, occupation governess.
Also in the house were her brother (a cooper) a male teacher (unmarried,
22) and seven scholars. This is in the period between the death of their
mother and their father's remarriage. In 1861 Joseph is living in Shoreditch, alone, unmarried, working as a carpenter and undertaker. Not found in 1871. In 1881, 1891 and 1901 living in Hackney and Stoke Newington with Louisa, no children. |
2174 | PLUCKROSE | Kathleen Elizabeth | C1861, C1881 a needlewoman, with no children. |
2838 | PLUCKROSE | Kenneth George | He died at Dunkirk in 1940. He was a Private in the 7th Bn Royal Sussex Regiment. |
2108 | PLUCKROSE | Lilian | C1911. |
2170 | PLUCKROSE | Lilly Edith | C1861; C1871: in Paddington with mother; C1881: in Marylebone with mother. |
2030 | PLUCKROSE | Martha Eleanor | C1901. |
1536 | PLUCKROSE | Mary | C1851; C1861: servant in Wanstead; C1871: NF. |
2091 | PLUCKROSE | Mary | 1851C, 1861C |
2125 | PLUCKROSE | Mary | C1911: age 2. |
2182 | PLUCKROSE | Mary Ann | 1841: not found, neither is her mother, Caroline. C1851: in household of Alexander Pluckrose of Woodford Bridge (PL2088), aged 13, born West Ham, niece. C1861: still in Alexander's household, unmarried, general servant, born in Woodford, described as niece. C1871:born in Woodford (age 30). C1881: born in Braintree (age 44). In 1891 born Woodford (age 48). In 1901 born Woodford, (age 50). Her marriage certificate records Alexander in the place of her father. In the days before formal adoption procedures he appears, to all intents and purposes, to have been her adoptive father. Her birth certificate does not name her father, neither does it name her (recorded as "female), but all the evidence points to Mary Ann being the illegitimate daughter of Caroline, and being adopted by her uncle. [Information from Jill Champion, Mary Ann's great great granddaughter]. |
2021 | PLUCKROSE | Mary Ann | In 1881 census. Married in the December quarter of 1900 to Frederick Boreham. |
2033 | PLUCKROSE | Mary Louisa | C1901. |
2128 | PLUCKROSE | Morris | The death is registered with the name Maurice James PLUCKROSE. This
must be Morris because (1) the birth date is given as April 1917 and
(2) there is no other possible male birth within that period in the GRO
index. No marriage found. |
4553 | PLUCKROSE | Phyllis Maud | C1911, age 1. She is not in the GRO birth index. According to her death record in the GRO index she was born on 7 December 1909. She did not marry. |
2029 | PLUCKROSE | Rosetta | C1901. |
4533 | PLUCKROSE | Rosetta | C1911, age 9. Rosetta married James H Padwick in the Mile End RD in
Q3 1922. In Q3 1923 the birth of Henry J Padwick was registered in the
Mile End RD, the mother's maiden name was Pluckrose. There were no subsequent
children registered. The death of Henry J Padwick, aged 24, was registered
in the Mile End Old Town RD in the December quarter of 1923. (See also
the notes for Rosetta's husband.) Rosetta got married again in Q4 1925 to William Horrod and over the next 15 years she had eight more children, including a pair of twin boys. All but one of her children were boys, Rosetta J was born in 1938. Rosetta died in Walthan Forest at the age of 78. |
2093 | PLUCKROSE | Sarah | C1851: C1861; her marriage record on 11 Dec 1867 clearly identifies her father as Alexander Pluckrose. |
1537 | PLUCKROSE | Sarah Ann | C1851. There is a possible marriage to George ATKINS, Q1 1866, West Ham 4a, 3. |
2028 | PLUCKROSE | Sarah Elizabeth | C1901. There were two children born in the Epping RD: John J in 1911 and Ivy E M in 1914. |
2154 | PLUCKROSE | Thomas Richard | The censuses tell a mixed story: 1841, a shoemaker, unmarried 1851: shoemaker, born Woodford 1820, married to Sarah, born ?Hendon, 1817. 1861: shoemaker, born Woodford Bridge 1821, married to Eliza, born Woodford Bridge, 1812 1871: shoemaker, born Woodford, 1822, married to Eliza, born Elmdon, 1815. 1881: shoemaker, born Woodford, 1822, married to Eliza, born Theydon, 1812. I can't find a record of an earlier marriage to Sarah so I suspect that "Sarah in 1851 was actually Eliza. Eliza's age varied a bit and I suspect that she had no idea where she was born, and couldn't remember what she said at the previous census. |
2164 | PLUCKROSE | Walter Alfred | C1861: printer's apprentice; C1871: see note for brother Samuel. C1881:
compositor. C1891: no occupation listed but recorded as a worker; unemployed?
Birthplace recorded as Woodford??; C1901: printer's compositor, age 57
born Lambeth. Death: his age is 4-5 years out but otherwise he fits. |
