The Family of George Pluckrose and Miriam Wrightson

Origins

This is a small tree - a single family. George's origins are not clear, he does not appear in a census until the age of 22 and I have not been able to find a birth record in the GRO index, [click here if you would like to read a more detailed investigation of George's origins]. George was very consistent over the years when declaring his age. His declared place of birth, however, moved in a slightly more respectable direction over the years.   George's marriage certificate may provide the answer to his parentage.

Year Census place Occupation Age Place of birth Census reference
1901 Hammersmith architect and surveyor 52 Chelsea RG13/41 f.15 p.10
1891 Hammersmith builder 42 Chelsea RG12/35 f.156 p.55
1881 Willesden builder's clerk 32 Paddington RG11/1364 f.93 p.7
1871 Chelsea solicitor's clerk 22 Kensal Town RG10/91 f.48 p.5

George met his future wife, Miriam, when he was a boarder in the Wrightson household in 1871. Miriam's parents, William and Anna appear to be running a laundry in Kensal Town that employed four women.  Although William was born in Kensal Town he was not living with his parents.  Perhaps they were dead.
