The Secondaries Court is a Sheriffs' Court, and is held in the city of London, at the Guildhall. It occupies the same position in the City as the Sheriffs' Court, Red Lion-square, does in the county of Middlesex, with the exception that it does not assess damages under the Lands Clauses Act, which cases are heard in the Mayor's Court.

The Sherriffs' Court, Red Lion-square, is held merely for the assessment of damages, in cases in which the liability is admitted, and the sole question is the amount of damages to be awarded, as well as in cases for the assessment of compensation under the Lands Clauses Act. It has no fixed sessions, but when any assessment of any nature has to be made, an appointment for the hearing is fixed at the office.

I have no idea what was the nature of the dispute between Messrs Pluckrose and Clarke.
