ABBEY WEDDING AT TEWKESBURY

MR. L. COLKETT – MISS M. PLUCKROSE

A pretty wedding was solemnised at Tewkesbury Abbey on Saturday (17 May 1941), when Miss Maud Florence Pluckrose, only child of Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Pluckrose of Enderley House, High-street, Tewkesbury, and formerly of Albion, St. Paul’s Way, London, E.3, was married to Mr. Leonard Colkett, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. V. Colkett, of 18 Firther Green-road, London, S.E.6.

The service was fully choral, and was conducted by the Vicar of Tewkesbury (Canon E. P. Gough). The Abbey organist (Capt. P. Baker, M.C., F.R.C.O.) was at the organ. The hymns “Lead us, Heavenly Father,” and “O Perfect Love” were sung; and Mendelssohn’s Wedding March was played as the happy couple left the Abbey.

Given away by her father, the bride looked charming in a white floral dress with full train, sweeping veil, and wreath of orange blossom. She carried a bouquet of white lilac and lilies of the valley.

She was attended by three bridesmaids - Miss Joan Binckes, of Chiswick (friend of the bride), Miss Doreen Colkett, of London (bridegroom’s sister), and Miss Sylvia Woodley, of Tewkesbury (cousin of the bride). The two elder bridesmaids were attired in dresses of ice-blue taffeta, wore heart-shaped hats with anemones and veiling in colour. The youngest wore a dress of confetti-net over ice-blue taffeta with bonnet to match. All three wore silver bracelets, the gift of the bridegroom, and carried posies of anemones. Miss Woodley acted as train bearer.

Mr. Stanley Victor Colkett (brother of the bridegroom) was best man.

SILVER HORSE SHOES

The bride was presented with three silver horse-shoes by her mother. Master Roy Garner (friend of the bride) before the service, and by Master Vivian Milner (friend of the bride) as she left the church.

The bride’s mother was attired in a turquoise blue dress with black accessories; while the bridegroom’s mother wore a floral dress with accessories in navy blue.

A reception was held by the bride’s parents at Enderley House, at which about 30 guests attended.

On leaving for the honeymoon, which is being spent in the neighbourhood, the bride wore a travelling costume in green, with brown accessories.

The happy couple received a large number of useful and handsome presents.
