JERSEY HORTICULTURAL: Oct. 24. — The annual exhibition of this Society was held in the Vegetable Market at St. Helier’s, a building very well adapted for the purpose, being light and well ventilated, though a little attention to decoration would have much improved its appearance, and given visitors an idea of its adaptability to other purposes than that of a market. The frequenters of flower shows in England would have a very sorry notion of a Channel Island show on entering this scantily filled building, scarcely anything besides the Pears being shown worthy of notice. In the classes for these superb fruits, for which the Island is so justly celebrated, some wonderful specimens were produced.

In the 2d prize collection, which fell to the lot of Mr. Pluck, of St. Helier’s, were extraordinary specimens of Belle de Jersey, weighing upwards of 2½ lb.; also good examples of Duchesse d’Angoulême, Chaumontel, Marie Louise, Beurré Diel, Napoléon, and others; but perhaps the most remarkable Pears were some finely formed well-coloured specimens of Beurré Clairgeau, shown by Mr. Pond, of the Vineries, St Aubin’s, and weighing over 1½ lb. each.
