SEPTEMBER 24TH AND 25TH
THE FRUIT AND VEGETABLE SHOW
APPLES. — Ninety dishes of dessert Apples were staged, the whole of which
were of very superior quality, remarkably high coloured, and uniform in
size.
. . .
Kitchen Apples. — There were forty-five collections, representing
over eight hundred fruits — a sight worth seeing, the majority being extraordinarily
fine. The first, second, and third prizes fell respectively to Mr. E. Bowles
for Winter Hawthornden, Warner’s King, and Stone’s Seedling; Mr.
James Pluck,
New Street, Jersey, for Grosse Menagére, Reinette d’Angleterre, and Alfriston;
and Mr. P. V. Pluck, Union Street, Jersey, for Poll’s Seedling, Alfriston,
and Mère de Ménage. Extra prizes were awarded to Mr. Haycock and Mr. Murrell.
This is Percy Voisin Pluck (1864-1930). James could be his father or his elder brother.
Both can be found in Tree 1005.
